Teeth decay, break, and crack. When this happens, a root canal might be the best course of action. Root canal therapy salvages the natural tooth rather than replacing it with a dental implant. The tooth will appear the same way it did before the procedure and may last forever without another treatment.

Happy PatientGoogle Review

When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Dr. McPherson always confidently answered, “A dentist, of course.” Growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, she admired her family dentist and the way he treated every patient as if they were a close friend or family member. She aspired to be a dentist and carry on the same philosophy of patient care in her practice.
Dr. McPherson graduated summa cum laude from the Honors College at East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She then continued her education at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, where she earned her DDS degree. With a desire to further her education and acquire more experience treating patients with special healthcare needs, Dr. McPherson traded the warm North Carolina weather for a General Practice Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. During this program, she worked at several Harvard-affiliated institutions, where she gained advanced experience in clinical and emergency dentistry.

Do You Need a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure that treats the infected pulp inside your tooth. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue that can become infected due to deep decay, cracked teeth, or repeated dental procedures.
You may need a root canal if you experience:
- Severe tooth pain when chewing
- Sensitivity to hot or cold
- Swollen gums near the affected tooth
- Darkening of the tooth
- Persistent pimple on the gums
Our Stow root canal dentists at Stow Acres Family Dental can evaluate your symptoms and determine if this treatment will solve your dental issues.

The Root Canal Procedure at Stow Acres Family Dental
When you visit our Stow root canal dentist for treatment, here’s what to expect:
- Consultation and Examination: During your initial visit, Dr. McPherson will examine your tooth, take X-rays, and determine if a root canal is necessary.
- Anesthesia: Local anesthesia ensures minimal pain during the procedure
- Removal of Infected Tissue: The dentist creates an opening in the tooth and removes the infected or damaged pulp.
- Cleaning and Disinfection: The inner chambers of the tooth are cleaned and disinfected to eliminate any remaining bacteria.
- Filling and Sealing: The cleaned chambers are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent future infection.
- Restoration: A crown or filling is placed on the tooth to restore its strength and appearance.
Most root canals in Stow can be completed in one or two visits to our office. Our patients are often surprised at how comfortable the procedure is, especially compared to the pain of an infected tooth left untreated.
